HOWARD JAMES HUNTINGTON

HOWARD JAMES HUNTINGTON, son of Samuel Perkins and Sarah Ann (Minott) Huntington; born July 27, 1841 in Mexico, NY; married Clara, daughter of Col. David Noyes, of Baraboo, Wis. She died in Green Bay in 1890. He entered the Army in 1861, and fought all through the Civil War. He was Sergeant Major of the 6th Wisconsin Regiment, of the famous Iron Brigade.

He was wounded at the battle of Gettysburg; also in the battle of Antietam. At the close of the war he entered the law department of the Michigan University. On his graduation he began practice in Baraboo. In 1873 he located in Green Bay, Wis., where he was a prominent member of the Brown Co. Bar. He was city attorney for a number of years. In 1887 Gov. Rusk appointed him County Judge to fill a vacancy, and he was re-elected four consecutive terms.

He married, second, in 1897, Eliza Ryan, who survives him. He died of heart disease April 24, 1902, in Green Bay, Wis.

CHILDREN

1. SAMUEL DAVID, born September 8, 1869; married Etta Hoghgrece, of Green Bay, Wis., in December 1907. She died in 1909. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and medical college of San Francisco, Cal. He was an officer in the Philippine War, and was a student at St. Francis, Milwaukee, Wis. He died at Milwaukee, Wis., October 14, 1914.
2. AGNES, born March 25, 1873; died August 7, 1873.
3. PAUL, born September 7, 1874, and lives in Kansas City, Mo
4. CLARA LOUISE, born August 23, 1876, in Green Bay, Wis.; married April 28, 1898, in Ripon, Wis., Hubert Spencer, son of Orrin Clement and Harriet (Green) Steenberg. He was born December 26, 1876, in Foud du Lac, Wis. He is a physician; lived in Fond du Lac, Wis., and moved to Milwaukee in 1899, where he now resides. He is a graduate of Marquette University, 1902. He served in the Spanish American War, in Co. D, 2d Wis. Vol. Infantry; enlisted in 1898, was discharged in 1899. He is a descendant of the Van Steenbergh family of New York State. They are Congregationalists. Their children, DAVID KNOX, GERALD HUNTINGTON, HARRIET ALICE, and CLARICE LOUISE, were born in Milwaukee.
5. LAURA LUCINDA, born November 11, 1881, in Green Bay, Wis.; married, October 29, 1908, in Milwaukee, Wis., Charles Alexander, son of James Alexander and Emma Marie (McMillan) Bremmer. He was born January 19, 1879, in Portage Co., Wis. Mr. Bremmer is the secretary of an Illinois corporation. He lived in Stevens Point, Wis., and in 1906, moved to Chicago, Ill., where he now resides. Their daughters, EDITH LOUISE and GERALDINE were born in Chicago.
6. HOWARD J., born in 1889, and died May 11, 1903.
