NATHANIEL HUNTINGTON
NATHANIEL HUNTINGTON was born September 12, 1828 in Indiana to Hallam and Penina (Bennight) Huntington.
Hallam was a farmer who lived in Hudson, Laporte Co., IN. Nathaniel married Sophia Cutshaw. He was a lawyer
and stockman. He was elected representative to the Wyoming legislature in 1888, and was speaker
of the 10th territorial district in the legislature of Wyoming at the time of his death, which
occurred February 14, 1889, at Cheyenne, Wyoming. Mrs. Huntington subsequently married William
Hitchcox and was living at Jamestown, Kansas, in 1912. She died October 20, 1939, near Ukiah, CA
at the home of her grandaughter, Mrs. Maude Gaines. She had lived with her sons, Harry Mortimer Huntington
and Hallam Joseph Huntington, in San Diego and San Bernadino, CA.
CHILDREN
- HALLAM JOSEPH, born September 7, 1859, in Laporte Co., IN; moved to Iowa in 1870; had
a common school education at Iowa Lake school, Emmett Co., IA; moved to Wyoming in 1881. He
married Linna Thorn on February 14, 1884. After his father's death he moved to the State of
Washington, and in 1893 was admitted to the bar and authorized to practice in all the courts
of the State. Their children were NATHANIEL RICHARD "NAT", MAUDE, IRIS, COREY P., and
MERRILL. She died February 11, 1945, and he died February 14, 1952, in Hornbrook, CA.
- CECIL JAMES, born March 14, 1867, in Carlisle, IN, married first, Ella, daughter of
Burton T. and Ellen (Crowfoot) Morley. She was born February 6, 1872 and died February 7, 1901.
They were the parents of MILDRED, CECIL BURTON, and EDWARD OLNEY. He married
second, June 30, 1909, Eva, daughter of Harvey and Theodosia (Brown) Calkins. She was born December
23, 1875 at Blue Rapids, KS. They were the parents of JAMES WAYNE, CARL,
DONALD, and DOROTHY. Cecil James graduated from the Still College of Osteopathy,
Des Moines, IA, in 1905. He died June 9, 1959, and wife Eva died June 30, 1950. Both are buried
at Cody, WY.
- HARRY MORTIMER, born March 27,1869, in Niles, MI; married January 20, 1898, in Denver,
CO, Jennie Dick, daughter of Samuel Caleb and Susan Jane (Goshorn) Pegg. She was born in Milroy,
IN, August 12,1869 and died in 1937. He married, second, Nora Nuby in 1942. He was a civil engineer and surveyor, and lived in Winnebago, MN, to 1874,
in Iowa Lake, IA, from 1874 to 1880, in Jamestown, KS, from 1880 to 1882, in Sheridan, WY, from
1882 to 1911. He was a member of the l0th legislature of the State of Wyoming, for two years
from 1908 to 1910. He died October 12, 1962 and is buried in San Diego, CA. He had no children.
- JOHN ROY, born May 17, 1875, in Iowa; married March 9, 1898, in Denver, CO, Martha
Elissa, daughter of William Henry and Harriet Julina (Hannum) Hyatt. She was born March 12, 1893,
in Denver, CO. He was in the stock and livery business in Powell, Wyoming. They were members of
the Congregational Church, and had a son HARRY HYATT, born January 18, 1899. He died in
1951, and she, in 1959. They are buried at the Masonic Cemetery in Monterey, CA.
