who was born in Norwich, February 4, 1748-9.He united with the First Church of

They had four children who died in infancy and were not named.
- LOUISA, born November 12, 1763; married, November 24,

Collins. He was born October 29, 1753. He was a physician and surgeon, and was
married once before, to Ruth Root, who died in 1790. He died April 28, 1818,
away from his home." At the breaking out of the War of the Revolution he started to
England to prosecute a claim to a Dukedom that had descended to the Collins family. He
pressed his journey as far as Boston, just as the war broke out, and was present at the
Tea Riot. He abandoned the idea, and some time afterwards was made paymaster of a body of
soldiery in New London." This is an Extract from notes of Julia Emaline Lilly,
granddaughter of Lewis Collins, and also from letters from Oristus, son of Lewis Collins.
They were the parents of ORISTUS,

- LYNDE, born March 22, 1767, in Lebanon, Conn. He graduated at Yale, in 1788, and was ordained pastor of the Congregational church in Branford, Conn., October 28, 1795. He married, June 15, 1796, Anna, widow of Rev. Jason Atwater, his predecessor, in Branford, and daughter of Rev. Warham and Ann Williams, her mother being a daughter of Rev. Samuel Hall, of Cheshire. Her paternal grandparents were the Rev. Dr. Stephen and Abigail (Davenport) Williams, of Springfield, Mass. His early ministry was one of promise, but a lingering disease soon set in, and prematurely terminated his period of earthly labor; not, however, until this record of his character and usefulness could be truthfully drawn; "Possessing a sound mind, the spirit of love and the wisdom of the prudent, he preached Christian doctrines and duties in their connection with all fidelity, was incessant in pastoral labors and an example to the flock. Entirely resigned, under a lingering illness he died in faith, September 19, 1804."
The venerable Daniel Waldo, late chaplain in Congress, his classmate in college, thus testifies: "His standing in college as a classical scholar was re spectable, and his moral and religious character unstained. He and Moses Hallock were two of the most exemplary scholars in the class. That he made an able and successful minister was a fact, though he died in the morning of life." Lynde was the father of SOPHIA, LOUISA ALMIRA, and LYNDE ATWATER Huntington.
